rehabilitation SERVICES
What is rehabilitation?
Rehabilitation is a focused process designed to either maintain your current level of activity or help you recover after illness, surgery or injury. Rehabilitation services include physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy to rebuild strength, independence and daily function. Rehabilitation is not long-term care, and it is not simply exercise. It is a targeted, goal-driven partnership between you and your care team, built around your specific needs and your personal wellness journey forward.

Goodwin Rehabilitation FAQs
What is the difference between short-term rehabilitation and outpatient care?
Short-term rehabilitation takes place while you’re staying at one of our campuses after surgery or illness. Outpatient care means you come in for therapy sessions while continuing to live at home.
Do I need to be a resident of one of your communities to receive therapy there?
No. Our rehabilitation services are available to residents and non-residents alike. Outpatient services are only available at The View Alexandria.
What is the difference between physical therapy and occupational therapy?
Physical therapy focuses on improving strength, balance and mobility. Occupational therapy helps you regain the ability to perform daily tasks like dressing, bathing or cooking.
If I need multiple types of therapy (physical, occupational, speech), will I have to make multiple trips or can you schedule them to occur at the same time?
We do our best to coordinate therapy sessions so you can receive the care you need efficiently, often on the same day or visit.
If I’m unable to leave home, can a therapist come to me?
We offer in-home therapy through Goodwin Home Health. Our team can evaluate your needs and work with your doctor to determine if home-based care is a good fit for you.
Is there anything I should know about what to expect?
You’ll start with a one-on-one appointment with a therapist who will provide a personalized evaluation. Together, you will set goals and plan your care. Therapy sessions are tailored to your needs and adjusted as you progress.
How long will I attend therapy?
That depends on your goals, diagnosis and progress. Some people need a few weeks, others may need longer. Your care team will keep you informed every step of the way.
